I have never stayed at a hotel with my dogs. I have too many (12) and wouldn't force them all into such a small space. Plus, I doubt the hotel owners would be thrilled. lol But, I'm wondering if anyone else has. If so, what was your experience like? Did you have to pay an extra fee for your dog? I'm curious because a friend of mine is going on vacation and she has a small dog and doesn't want to leave her behind.Have you stayed at a pet-friendly hotel with your dog?
Planning and preparation are necessary when traveling with family pets. Consider whether your pet is comfortable when traveling. Some animals, like some people, function better in familiar surroundings. A car-sick animal can make a trip miserable for everyone. Some ill or physically impaired dogs and cats cannot withstand the rigors of travel. If this is the case, discuss options such as using a reliable pet-sitter or a clean, well-managed boarding facility with your veterinarian.
If you will be staying with friends along the way, be considerate. Find out in advance if the pet is welcome. The same goes for hotels, motels, parks, and campgrounds. Always check whether pets are allowed or kennel facilities are available. If the pet must be left alone in a hotel room, place a ';Do Not Disturb'; sign on the door and inform the maid and the front desk. Consider bringing along a portable kennel for use in hotel rooms or the homes of friends or relatives who are not comfortable with your pet loose when no one is home.
A few general tips apply whether you travel by car or plane. Be sure your pet is properly identified with a current tag or a microchip. Grooming (bathing, combing, trimming nails) before a trip, plus having its favorite food, toy(s), and dishes available will make your pet more comfortable. Have both proof of rabies vaccination and a current health certificate with you when crossing state or international borders.
Before undertaking any trip, consult your veterinarian to be sure that all required vaccinations are up-to-date and to receive a health certificate within ten days of travel.Have you stayed at a pet-friendly hotel with your dog?
I'm pretty sure all pet-friendly hotels require a fee, around $20-$100. My experience is that all the dog friendly rooms available (in regular hotels like Holiday Inn, ect) are the cruddy ones. Most Hotels would not place a dog in a room with nice furniture/things, and take the chance that they'll be destroyed. And if they are destroyed you of course, have to pay. There are very few decent dog friendly rooms out there. Also, almost all hotels will not allow you to leave your pet alone in your room.
So, if you want to go sightseeing, eat out, or shop this is a problem. You're going to have look for a doggy daycare nearby. Some hotels offer pet sitting, %26amp; you have to pay extra.
It's less expensive %26amp; way better to just leave the dog with a family/friend or at a boarding kennel.
I have stayed in a pet friendly hotel with my dog when I was showing her at a place far away. Of course you have to pay the fee for the dog stay there. Some hotels only require you pay the fee and then if there is no damage done to the room or property they return the fee to you. Others keep the fee.
I have heard horror stories of dogs eating rat poison or bug poison and almost dying though. You have to be very careful.
I really tell you though as I have said in other questions asked about traveling with dogs; it is really no fun traveling with dogs because stores don't allow them and personally I don't like leaving my dogs in cage all day in a hotel room.
If it is an outdoor trip like riding around the mountains or some short hiking then I can see it would be okay if they allowed dogs. If not then I really wouldn't bring my animals with me. Besides I have family and friends I could call to come over and pet-sit for me rather then board my dogs.
I have had mine come with me a few times, typically any Red Lion is pet friendly, and since I only have 2 it has never been a problem. Yes, they usually do charge a one time non-refundable cleaning fee of around 25 per dog, but they accept large breeds which makes the pet fee worth while for me as Id pay more than 25 per dog total in boarding fees plus I get to keep my pets in my safe hands. Your friend should yahoo search ';pet friendly hotels'; there's sooo many resources out there now, and even on yahoo travel she can search hotels in the area she wants to stay in and they have a little ';paw'; symbol if they're pet friendly.
I stay at ';Pet Friendly'; hotels on a regular basis. I travel for dog shows and anything ove a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive, I stay over. (In the spring/summer and early fall, I camp, if possible)
I've had no problems. My dogs are obedience trained and crate trained. I also don't leave my dogs unsupervised in the hotel rooms and they are not barkers. If I have to go somewhere, they come with me. If I need to get food, I order for deliver, not a problem.
Some places require and extra fee for dogs and some places no. It's best to check around. Some hotels it's a per dog, per nite fee.
When I was traveling, I bought a soft-sided luggage-type dog carrier for my small dog.
When we stayed at a hotel, I would just put the strap over my shoulder and carry her in with the rest of my ';luggage';. I put the carrier on the floor, and that was her bed in the hotel room.
Mind you, she was completely housebroken, and never barked, so nobody even knew she was there. You could not do that with a dog who would leave a mess.
i have 3 dogs (2 small and one greyhound) and i have traveled with them and never had any problem at all i always use motel 6 because they all are pet friendly and have no extra charge for the pets. when i took them for vacations i always plan things i can do that they can come along, if i needed to go some where they could not go along i just put up the do not disturb sign so they maids do not open the door and either get scared or scare my dogs or even accidentally let the dogs out. i work at a kennel and some dogs really love to be boarded and enjoy their time at the kennel but there are dogs that just hate every minute of it. my dogs never leave my side (they go to work with me, go to friends houses with me, etc) so when i have boarded them they HATE it...lol so i just bring them as often as i possibly can! well good luck i hope yall have a good trip!! =)
In los angles we took our 130lb saint bernard with us on a trip. We stay at the petfriendly hotel called the palimar. They don't charge you for bringing a pet. There the best and they have the hotel everywhere. I am going back agian very soon with my dogs!
yes, we drove from ny to nc to pick up our rottie puppy so yes we spent the nt. at a hotel on the way home. it was $15 extra. you can do an on-line search for pet friendly hotels. she was great the whole trip.
I might be soon, it is only a good option if you have 1-3 small dogs or 1-2 medium/large dogs. There is usually a weight limit %26amp; it costs extra for dog service.
Yes, I have. It was a very nice experience overrall. It was only for one night, but we didn't have to pay an extra fee or anything. Is it just me, or is Kip's Mom paranoid? lol
Well, yes I have. I broght Jasper , my rottweiler, to a dog hotel ear beverly center.
I just wanted to say that Kips Mom is almost making me pee my pants from laughter!
